21st Century PL/SQL

Welcome to 21st Century PL/SQL, an idea collector set up by Steven Feuerstein to help PL/SQL developers influence the future direction of the Oracle PL/SQL language.

Oracle PL/SQL is Oracle's procedural extension to industry-standard SQL; in fact, PL/SQL stands rather plainly for "Procedural Language extensions to the Structured Query Language."  PL/SQL is a very readable, straightforward, and powerful language that excels at providing access to the Oracle database via SQL.

Using this site throughout 2005, PL/SQL developers are invited to make suggestions as to what you would like to see added or changed in the PL/SQL language.  You can also vote on the ideas submitted by other developers.  During the Oracle PL/SQL Programming 2005 conference, taking place in the Fall of 2005, we will review the results and present our conclusions to the Oracle PL/SQL development team.  They can use this information to make better-informed decisions about which new features should be added to PL/SQL and how they should be prioritized.

Please be sure to review the current ideas, either by searching for key words or perusing the categories to the right, before adding your own suggestions.
